Medical University of South Carolina
HE IS HAPPY TO OVERSEE THE NEWLY FORMED RESEARCH CENTRE IN INDIA
Masters & Doctoral degrees at the University of Madras, India 1984 – Moved to USA as a postdoctoral fellow.
Research Associate at Washington University, St. Louis from 1986-1993. 1994 – Joined MUSC as a faculty.
Primary interest in the field of cardiac hypertrophy and signal transduction Contributed to the field of cardiac hypertrophy – 20 years.
At MUSC most of his work is devoted to cardiac hypertrophy. His lab showed for the first time that integrins and the associated activation of nonreceptor tyrosine kinases promote growth and survival of cardiomyocytes for compensatory cardiac hypertrophy.
His recent work show how nonreceptor tyrosine kinases promote fibroblast proliferation & extracellular matrix deposition as part of pathological decompensatory hypertrophy.
Obtained several extramural research funding.
Generated several research tools.
Published over 50 elegant papers in the field of cardiac hypertrophy and failure.
Ad hoc reviewer for numerous Journals and grant study sections.
Member of several societies including International Society of Heart Research, The American Heart Association & The American Physiology Society.
Actively involved in Graduate School service and teaching
